Running a book

March 4, 2009

Since starting running longer stretches I’ve also found that listening to something other than music gets me want to keep on going. For a while I listed to all the podcast from the Swedish radio show Summer, 45 min long talks by well known Swedes mixed with their favorite tunes. My run then finished just after listening through one episode. When running even longer I had to start listening to a second show but had to pause it to resume it later on my next run. I always kept on forgetting what I had heard and had to start all over or try to fast forward just as I pressed my ipod too hard so it would skip a hole episode. Instead I heard a good friend saying he listens to books while running. Boring I thought at first…but then I tried it and now I’m hooked. The more excitement or thrill there is in the book the better I run. Like this morning…running a long the Thames listening to the Coq Rouge novels by Jan Guillou I could have kept going at least another 30 min just to hear what happened next.  Slight problem now though is that my right knee and I are not on speaking terms, since I’ve been pushing it too hard, so again I had to pause my ipod. At least I got a new personal best pep talk from Lance Armstrong. Off course I could keep listening at home but I know I might not be able to stop at all then.

From a quick google search I can’t find any placec online that reccommends good book so run to. So maybe I should add that to my blog feed here on the right. Please add yours if you have any…or at least try it.
